Product Overview
A mixed-flow pump is a vane-type pump that falls between a centrifugal pump and an axial-flow pump.
Working Principle
The prime mover drives the pump shaft to rotate, causing the impeller to turn with it and the blades to do work on the liquid. The liquid enters the impeller at the suction inlet; under the action of centrifugal force, it moves radially toward the outer periphery of the impeller, while simultaneously being pushed by the blades in the axial direction. The superposition of these two motions results in the liquid exiting the impeller at an oblique angle, entering the volute or guide vanes, where part of its kinetic energy is converted into pressure energy before flowing out through the pump discharge pipeline.
Structural Features
It is primarily composed of an impeller, pump casing, guide vanes, shaft, bearings, and sealing devices. The impeller blades have a blade profile that lies between those of centrifugal and axial-flow pumps, featuring both a curvature angle and an inclination angle. The pump casing comes in two forms: volute-type and cylindrical, which are used in volute-type mixed-flow pumps and guide-vane-type mixed-flow pumps, respectively.
Performance Features
The flow rate is moderately high, exceeding that of conventional centrifugal pumps; the head typically ranges from 5 to 20 meters, which is higher than that of axial-flow pumps but lower than that of multistage centrifugal pumps; the pump boasts high efficiency with a broad efficient operating range, achieving efficiencies of over 80% under design conditions; it also exhibits good cavitation performance and allows for a relatively high allowable suction lift.

According to their structural configuration, mixed-flow pumps can be classified as volute-type mixed-flow pumps and guide-vane-type mixed-flow pumps; according to their installation method, they can be classified as vertical mixed-flow pumps, horizontal mixed-flow pumps, submersible mixed-flow pumps, and inclined mixed-flow pumps, among others.
